The ball was nestling in the Shamrocks net just twenty seconds into this Fatima Derby last Tuesday night.

But the goal was disallowed for an infringement in the lead-up.

It was end to end stuff right from the off, the deadlock being broken by a simple headed goal from Owen Armstrong in the six yard box to put Shamrocks ahead.

They should have increased their lead, but first Deco Moran and then Jimmy Cooney wasted great chances.

Ten minutes before the break both sides were reduced to ten men, the Youths Derek Rogers and Shamrocks Deco Moran taking early showers.

Shamrocks upped the anti in the seocnd half and it took stout defending to keep them at Bay, but they cracked in the 55th minute. A corner kick won by a deflected Brian Reid screamer, which hit the post, was drilled low and hard to the net by central defender Sean McCourt to put Shamrocks 2-0 ahead.

The Youths tried hard to rescue the game, but poor finishing let them down.

In added time Owen Armstrong was fouled in the box and he put the resultant spot kick away to make it 3-0.

Players to catch the eye were Owen Armstrong, Sean McCourt, Brian Reid of Shamrocks and Ger Conlon, Anton McLoughlin of the Youths.
