Woodview Celtic FC host their annual Lee Myles Lucchesi Tournament on Sunday, July 6.
The event, for U8 and U9 teams, takes place at DkIT. The U8 games will begin at 10am, followed by the U9 blitz at 1.30pm.
There are two trophies on offer in both age groups. The Cup section will consist of stronger teams and the Shield for weaker teams so that kids get the chance to compete against players of a similar ability. It is up to each club to pick what section they want to play in. Most clubs usually enter two teams with one in either section.
The cost is 50 Euro per team with 10 players on each team. The format is 7-a-side with roll on and roll off subs. Games last 10 minutes each way with most clubs playing at least three games.
Previous winners of the tournament include the host club, Woodview Celtic, Bellurgan United and Rock Celtic. The event attracts clubs from right across the north east region with Kells Blackwater a regular visitor to the tournament.
This event started four years ago and it is a great chance for younger children to experience a big tournament.
The competition is played in memory of Lee Myles Lucchesi who tragically died at the age of nine in 2003 when a set of goalposts fell on him in Navan whilst he was waiting to watch his father play for Woodview Celtic in a Meath and District League match.
If any club wants to enter the Lee Myles Lucchesi Tournament, please contact Woodview Celtic committee members Fintan Rogers on 0868886602 or Kevin Magee on 0871311457 for more details.
