Rangers and Woodview played out an exciting 1-1 draw in this U12 First Division clash with Woodview in Bellew Park on Thursday last.

Woodview were out of the blocks early and could have taken the lead after five minutes when Sardjan Zigic fired narrowly wide of the Rangers post and the Woodview striker came close again two minutes later with a shot from 10-yards that was well saved by Ben Dixon in the home goal.

Rangers had early chances of their own through Conor Marmion and Keith Dollard and they continued to cause problems for Woodview. They created another chance when Jake McConville’s left footed low drive flew past James Byrne but grazed the outside of the post.

Woodview’s Dylan Weaving then expertly curled a free-kick up and over the wall but the ball just cleared the top of the Rangers crossbar.

The home side finished the half the stronger with chances from Jake McConville and Keith Dollard.

Woodview came out more determined in the second-half and quickly got back on track. A long range effort from Ben Walsh crashed off the crossbar and Ben Dixon produced a good save to prevent Jack Conlon from breaking the deadlock.

It was Rangers, though, who took the lead when Keith Dollard’s powerful free-kick went through the wall and into the roof of the net nine minutes after the break.

Woodview continued to attack, searching for an equaliser and Christopher McCaffery, Sean Heslin and George Mass all went close but were frustrated by fine goal keeping skills from Ben Dixon while at the other end Oisin Dixon was unlucky not to increase the lead for Rangers with a superb effort that went inches wide of the post.

The equaliser arrived on 54 minutes after a determined run into the Rangers box by Noah Aigbodion who showed excellent composure to fire an unstoppable drive to the top corner of the net.

In the last action of the game James Byrne saved the day for Woodview with a fine save from another pile-driver from Keith Dollard and both sides shared the spoils in what was an excellent game of football, a draw being a fair result.
