A big crowd in Fatima were treated to a roller coaster of a game, with Shamrock Youths coming out on the right side of a nine goal thriller.
The home side got off to a perfect start, going 2-0 up inside seven minutes with goals from Anto Reilly and John Boland. Bay reduced the lead just before half time through Jeffery Ekwiene.
Brian Johnston’s visiting came out for the second half with all guns blazing and within minutes Clarence Tomba had them level.
Both Ekwiene and Tomba found the net again as Bay roared into a 4-2 lead.
The introduction of Paul Adeniyi and Shamrocks player-manager Barry Casey steadied the Youths and with 14 minutes remaining Derek Rogers made it 4-3 and the fight back was on.
Cody Magill drew Shamrocks level as the 90 minute mark was reached, and in added time Gavin Gaffey struck to complete a remarkable comeback.
This win keeps the Youths very much in the title hunt. Bay, without top striker Frank Osadebe due to suspension, are probably wondering just what the result would have been if he had played.
