Glenmuir United gained ample revenge over their club counterparts Glenmuir Celtic with a comprehensive victory in this U13 club derby match on Monday night.
The last time these teams clashed back in February when Glenmuir Celtic emerged victorious with a 2-1 win and it was a close affair in the first half this time with United leading 2-1 at the break.
United opened the scoring after five minutes when Peter McStravick’s pass found Thomas O’Connell in space at the edge of the penalty area and O’Connell’s curled effort found the top corner of the Celtic net.
United doubled their advantage on 13 minutes when Mark Kilgallon’s pass sent Stephen Ryland surging into the penalty area and his first time effort flew into the Celtic net for a superb strike.
Celtic were back in the game four minutes later when Craig Lennon’s free kick was headed home by Jamie Doherty to make it 2-1 and the sides could have been level at the half time whistle but Mark Byrne produced a good reflex save to deny Ryan Coburn.
Glenmuir United increased their lead seven minutes into the second half with a Peter McStravick free kick and almost immediately Jason Callan had a chance for Celtic but his effort found the side netting as both sides attacked at every opportunity.
The game ended as a contest when United scored their fourth and best goal of the night when Mark Kilgallon waltzed his way - George Best style - through the Celtic defence and rolled the ball into the corner to score one of the goals of the season.
Jason Callan added a fifth goal for United in the closing stages to complete the scoring.
