Muirhevnamor maintained their position at the top of the MDL Division One table thanks to a 3-1 win away to Newtown United over the weekend.

Sean Conlon opened the scoring on 20 minutes when he finished off a Gary Clarke strike that was too hot for the home goalkeeper to handle.

The goal came just moments after Jason McConville had made a stunning save from point blank range from the Newtown centre forward.

Five minutes into the second half the visitors doubled their lead when Conlon’s superb 40-yard pass picked out Clarke and he went around the keeper to make it 2-0.

Sean Dixon’s side - with the manager leading by example - made it 3-0 when Philip Duffy and Paul Mallon played a one two to allow Clarke a strike on goal. His effort was again parried by the goalkeeper but from the tightest of angles Clarke somehow squeezed the ball to the net and the game was effectively over.

In the final minutes the home side grabbed a consolation goal following a free kick.

MUIRHEVNAMOR: Jason McConville, Craig Dixon, Brian Begley, Thomas Conway, Sean Dixon, Kevin Mulgrew (Paul Mallon), Philip Duffy, Jimmy Cooney, Sean Conlon (Padraig Smith), Gary Clarke, Brendan Hughes (Damien Bailey).
