A clinical Dundalk dispatched Malahide ruthlessly with a 3-0 victory at Oriel Park on Sunday morning.
Two goals from Padraig McGowan bookended an Aaron Boyle effort for the Lilywhites who got back to winning ways after a disappointing performance last time out.
Despite the scoreline giving the impression that it was an altogether somewhat comfortable affair for Alan Browne’s men, the reality was far from that, especially in the early going.
It was the away side who started stronger but could not grab the goal to go with their dominance and they were duly punished.
Against the run of play, Dundalk broke at pace and when McGowan picked up the ball, he ghosted his way past two challenges and finished calmly into the corner to give his side the lead.
Ten minutes into the second half, things got even better for the Youths when a deflected shot bounced favourably into the path of Boyle and he made no mistake from close range by blasting past the goalkeeper to double Dundalk’s lead.
Their victory was ensured with 20 minutes left to play when Robbie Macken had his goalbound strike blocked and once more the ball fell kindly to a Dundalk player, this time McGowan was the beneficiary, tucking the ball home to make sure of the points.
