Dennis Cholach hit a brace as Quay Celtic picked up their third Integral Sport MDL Premier Division win in a row when they beat Boyne Harps 2-0 in Monasterboice on Thursday evening.

On a playing surface that did neither side any favours the first-half saw very little in the way of goalmouth action or clear cut opportunities by either side with both defences on top.

The Quay rearguard was brilliantly marshaled by the experienced Gareth Papworth who led by example as he continually frustrated the Boyne forward line with some brilliant tackles and his overall defensive reading of the game.

On 55 minutes the deadlock was broken and it was Cholach who opened the scoring. Gavin Donnelly swung a corner kick into the goalmouth and when the Boyne goalkeeper failed to take control of the ball, Cholach fired home the opening goal.

Boyne attempted to draw level but with Papworth and Stephen Hutchinson in such commanding form there was no way through the Quay defensive cover.

With ten minutes left to play the insurance goal arrived for the visitors and again it came from another corner kick as Cholach rose highest in the penalty area to thump an unstoppable header to the roof of the net.

Having secured this all important goal the Point Road side closed out the game with another valuable three points safely in the bag.

Quay Celtic: Craig McKenna, Jude Carroll, Gareth Papworth, Stephen Hutchinson, Robbie Rafferty, Barry McKenna, Gavin Donnelly, Robbie Gavigan, Sean McErlean, Dennis Cholach.
