Woodview Reserves kept up their very impressive start to the season with a superb 3-0 win against arch rivals Duleek in Oriel Park on Saturday.
This was Woodview’s first victory over Duleek in six attempts and the manner in which they recorded it was very impressive. Ger Rafferty scored a brilliant first half double to set Wayne Conroy’s side on their way.
His first goal arrived on 20 minutes when his strike partner Barry Carr played him in.
His second came just five minutes later, this time being set up by Derek Moran.
At 2-0 Woodview were cruising and it should have been 3-0 with Barry Carr having a weak penalty saved by the Duleek keeper. Rafferty almost grabbed a hat-trick with a sweetly struck volley from 30-yards out that smashed off the crossbar.
Duleek came out for the second half a much improved team and they were almost back in it but Joey Martin put the ball over the bar when it seemed easier to score.
The visitors were made to pay for this missed chance when Carr linked up well with Eimhin Caldwell to delicately lift the ball over the Duleek goalkeeper with a sublime finish.
Woodview sit top of the MDL Premier Reserve with Kingscourt just a point behind in second.
