On Sunday morning Premier Division leaders Bellurgan United hosted Bohermeen at home in the Tully Bookmakers Cup and it was no surprise when the peninsula side booked their place in the next round with a comfortable 3-1 win.
Bellurgan opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Ciaran Rogan and Shane Finnegan linked up to set Owen Traynor free and when he sung in a deep cross Daniel O’Connor arrived on cue to fire a rocket to the net.
Ciaran Sheelan and Darryn Gaynor then spurned a couple of opportunities to increase the home side’s lead before the same two players combined for the latter to round the goalkeeper and make it 2-0.
At the other end, such was the home side’s dominance Robert Arthur had only to make one notable save in the first-half.
Alex Bothwell’s confident side made it 3-0 when Owen Traynor and O’Connor played a couple of one twos that bamboozled the visitors and when O’Connor delivered a pinpoint cross to the head of Gaynor there was only going to be one outcome as his superb header rattled the net.
For the remainder of the game Bellurgan played well within themselves but in the final minute a rash challenge by Diarmuid Murphy was punished by the concession of a penalty kick that visitors converted to make it 3-1.
Bellurgan United: Robert Arthur, Jonathan Winters (Paul Savage), Stephen Malone, Diarmuid Murphy, Jason Brennan, Owen Traynor, Daniel O’Connor, Ciaran Rogan (Ciaran Casey), Shane Finnegan, Ciaran Sheelan, Darryn Gaynor.
