A Kian Newell hat-trick inspired Glenmuir United to a stunning 7-0 win over Bellurgan on Saturday morning.

The home side showed their intent in the early stages when JJ Nwabueze dragged a shot across the face of the Bellurgan posts in the 6th minute and the same player had a shot saved on the goal line a minute later.

Glenmuir were on top in midfield and were dominating possession and their early pressure was rewarded in the 10th minute when Josh Todd gave them the lead.

Shortly after, Ebuka Kwelele made a darting run down the left, beat his marker and crossed for Newell who fired first time into the opposite corner to make it 2-0.

It should have been 3-0 a minute later when Newell became playmaker, but his cross was somehow headed over the bar by Josh Todd and then Conor McGowan slammed a shot off the crossbar as a rampant Glenmuir outplayed Bellurgan.

Glenmuir soon scored number three when Newell collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area and had time to pick his corner. Bellurgan staged a mini comeback in the second half with Sean Dunne and Philip Lennon threatening but it was the home side that turned on the style and they scored a superb goal 15 minutes after the break following a fine passing move with four players finishing with a delightful lob over the advancing Martin McEneaney’s head by Josh Todd.

The goals then flowed as the Bellurgan heads went down and Glenmuir took full advantage.

Newell completed his hat-trick to make it 4-0 and further goals from JJ Nwabueze and Liam McStravick completed the rout.
