An understrength Quay Celtic team travelled to play Navan Cosmos on Sunday and they returned home on the end of an 8-0 defeat as Cosmos striker Lee Duffy bagged five of the goals.
There was no sign of what was to come as the visitors took the game to the home side in the early stages and Denys Cholach was denied by two excellent stops.
However Cosmos turned on the turbo and by half-time their speedy twin strikers, Conor Walsh and Duffy, had added two goals apiece.
The second half saw the Quay battle hard and they saw good efforts from Barry McKenna and Oisin McGee go close but the home side’s firepower was too much and Duffy hit a further three before Cosmos captain Sean Conaty completed the rout.
Barry Kieran’s team have now conceded 21 goals in just four games and sit with just one point from four games.
They face local rivals Woodview Celtic in the 2nd Round of the Kilmessan Shield at Clancy Park on Friday night.
