Despite being short a number of regulars, Rock Celtic put seven goals past AUL outfit Sheridan FC 7-1 in the AUL Complex on Sunday morning with David Ward netting five goals.
The Rock were slow to get into their stride and it took until the 43rd minute for the Seasiders to open the scoring when Paddy Quinn struck following a corner kick.
On 50 minutes Ward grabbed the first of his goals to open the floodgates when he finished off a one two with Derek Delany and within five minutes he doubled his tally after he outpaced the Sheridan defence from a John Rogers clearance.
Ward then completed his hat-trick when Kevin McArdle picked him out with a superb cross-field delivery and his fourth arrived shortly afterwards, this time Cormac McArdle acting as the provider to make it 5-0 for his side.
The home side were then gifted a penalty after Aidan Sheehy was adjudged to have fouled a Sheridan player and it was converted to make it 5-1.
Ward’s strike partner Derek Delany deservedly got in on the scoring when he was set up by a Quinn through ball.
However the final say was left to Ward as he completed the scoring with a superb volley from Cormac McArdle’s inswinger to complete an excellent personal performance.
