Ardee Celtic went into their last game of the season at Townparks on Sunday morning needing at least one point to clinch the U12 Division One league title.
Tensions were high after the side lost their previous match earlier in the week and the lads couldn’t afford any slip up against a good Carlingford side.
After a nervous start the home side gradually found their stride with Dean Martin putting in an excellent performance in centre midfield while captain Dylan White was inspirational at he heart of Ardee’s defence.
The breakthrough finally came through Jay Crawley who bagged two goals in quick succession to put Ardee deservedly in front at the interval.
With the wind behind them, Carlingford rallied well after the restart and enjoyed a sustained period of pressure creating a string of great chances. However, Ardee’s brave goalkeeper Peter Dickson was outstanding between the posts pulling off some magnificent saves to deny the visitors efforts.
The Deesiders then earned a penalty on a counter attack which Danny O’Brien duly slotted away to put the game beyond reach.
Bobby Butterly then added a fourth goal late on and was indeed unlucky not to add another with a header that struck the crossbar.
There was great jubilation at the final whistle as the Ardee side celebrated their hard earned title win. Well done to all the players, coaches, and parents involved!
