Dundalk Youths bounced back from their opening day loss to Stella Maris by winning 2-1 on the road against Celbridge outfit Ballyouster on Sunday morning.

Alan Browne’s side started brightly and Anton Reilly saw a free-kick well saved before A Boyle raced on to a Frank Osadebe pass only to see his effort also saved.

Dundalk took the lead in the 25th minute when Reilly squared a free-kick to Sean Matthews and he launched a fierce drive into the net from 25-yards.

The Lilywhites doubled the lead 15 minutes later with a well worked move involving Cillian Mulligan and O’Connor which resulted in Boyle coolly slotting the ball away.

The home side hit back with a goal two minutes before half-time.

Boyle had a chance to increase Dundalk’s lead in the second-half but he shot over from Cody Magill’s pass.

And the Youths were fortunate not to get pegged back late on when some sloppy defensive play allowed a Ballyouster player to take aim from close range but goalkeeper Fergal Sheeky pulled off a fine stop to turn the ball on to his post and the ball was cleared.

Dundalk Youths: Fergal Sheeky, Fergal McDonald, Adam O’Connor (Gary Crummy 65), Cillian Mulligan, Frank Osadebe, Cody Magill, Anton Reilly, Vladez Evseev, Sean Matthews (Liam Keenan 55), Pauric McGowan, Aaron Boyle (James Renaghan 80).
