Dundalk goalkeeper Peter Cherrie said that Friday night’s 3-1 win over Shamrock Rovers was a ‘massive win’ for his side.
“The boys did great to get the two early goals”, said Cherrie. “Pat Hoban is on fire at the minute. Everything he touches seems to turn into a goal and long may that continue. That goal gave us a great boost.”
Rovers pulled a goal back right before half-time through Karl Sheppard but Dundalk restored their two goal lead when Kurtis Byrne smashed home the third goal in the 53rd minute.
“It was a slack goal to give away but these things happen and we came out in the second-half and showed our fighting qualities by getting the third goal”, said Cherrie.
The Scot played his part in the win, making a fantastic save late on to deny Sheppard a second.
“I’m feeling good”, said Cherrie. “I can’t complain with my own form but I’ve a great back four in front of me and it’s down to them aswell.”
