There was no shortage of goals at the Friary Field on Saturday morning as Blayney Academy proved too strong for the young St Dominic’s team.
Stephen Mooney opened the scoring after two minutes to put Blayney 0-1 ahead and it was soon 2-0 when Cian McKenna hammered home from close range.
St Dominic’s fought back and Michael Kirby’s cross was slotted home at the back post by Dean Thomas Quilton and the sides were level at 2-2 on 14 minutes when Alex Gormley’s free-kick flew into the Blayney net.
Their delight was short lived as the away side regrouped and two goals from Cian McKenna before the break earned the Blayney striker a first half hat-trick to give the away side a comfortable two goal cushion at half-time.
The second half belonged to Blayney as they romped away to victory. Jack McBride threatened for St Dominic’s but Jamie Brannigan poked home a fifth goal for Blayney and a superb long range effort from Ciaran Brannigan made it 2-6 in the closing stages for a comfortable victory.
