Daryl Horgan paid tribute to fellow SWAI Player of the Month nominee Chris Shields following Dundalk’s 3-0 FAI Cup win over Sligo Rovers on Friday night.
Both Dundalk players have been nominated for their performances during the month of May and, on current form, both could well be up for the June award aswell!
“We’re playing very well,” said Horgan. “It’s hard not to with the way we are going at the moment. It’s great when you have the freedom to go and attack and know that we have the lads behind us to take care of things.
“Chris Shields has been unbelievable for us,” he added. “He has been absolutely outstanding. Some of the stuff he is doing is unbelievable, it’s stuff that I never thought he had in him to be honest. I thought he was a good player at Bray Wanderers but he has absolutely stepped it up and has been different class.”
Shields was pipped to the man of the match award by David McMillan on Friday night. The striker opened the scoring with his 10th goal in as many starts and set up Dundalk’s other two goals, including Horgan’s 47th minute effort.
“It’s a frightening record that David has. He’s a goal machine and he’s playing very well. It says a lot about how well Pat Hoban was playing that David couldn’t get into the team but that was an incredible performance from him. He will be a big player for us this season.”
