Quay Celtic U13s stay top of the league after a narrow one goal victory over third placed Bay United at Clancy Park on Wednesday night.
The Point Road side were first to threaten on four minutes when Lee Byrne was unlucky to see his 15 yard effort glide just over David Odomusuo’s post.
Five minutes later it was Quay who could have edged in front when man of the match James Teelan slipped a clever pass into Terence Kelly but his shot skimmed wide.
With 18 minutes gone, the deadlock was broken when Teelan broke in behind the Bay defence and finished superbly in the far bottom corner.
The setback shook Bay into action and three minutes later Tom Jackson equalised with a tremendous shot from 25 yards that flew into the roof of the Quay net.
A Michael Begley free kick was then headed over as both sides continued to push for another.
Quay deservedly went back in front after half time when Byrne’s hooked pass put Teelan in the clear and the Quay Celtic striker beat the advancing Odumosu to find the corner of the net.
Bay battled to level but struggled to breach the well organised Quay defence and Ronan Sands was unlucky not to increase Quay’s lead when he headed over.
