An under par Rock Celtic beat struggling Longwood 2-1 at Sandy Lane in the Nivea for Men MDL Premier Division on Friday night.
The home side opened the scoring on 26 minutes when Cormac McArdle whipped in a corner kick that Aidan Sheekey volleyed to the net through a crowded penalty area.
Having taken the lead, Rock struggled to build on it but they added a second goal with five minutes of the half remaining when David Ward netted after the visitors failed to clear their lines.
Longwood upped their game in the second-half and early on they were unlucky not to score from a shot that struck an upright. This let off refocused the home side but the visitors got a goal back on 80 minutes to make it a tense finish for the Seasiders.
For the remainder of the game it was the Meath side who asked all the questions but the league champions comfortably held out to secure three much needed points.
