Early pacesetters in the Nivea For Men MDL Premier Divison, Muirhevnamor and Duleek drew 1-1 in Muirhevnamor on Friday evening last.
The game was evenly balanced until the 36th minute when Brendan Hughes’s quick thinking saw him take a quick free-kick and play a number of one twos with Ryan Dillon.
Dillon beat a defender before chipping a delicate ball back to Hughes who smashed an unstoppable header to the back of the visitors net.
Within five minutes the sides were level when the Duleek left winger struck a daisy cutter from just outside the penalty area into the bottom corner to ensure the sides went in level at the break.
The second half opened at a frantic pace and the first goal chance fell to Dillon on 55 minutes but his effort was narrowly wide.
On the hour mark Sean Conlon swung in a corner kick that was headed clear to the edge of the Duleek penalty area.
Philip Duffy met the dropping ball on the volley only to see his strike handled by a Duleek defender; the penalty kick was duly awarded.
Conlon struck his effort low and hard and with plenty of power but the Duleek goalkeeper made a stunning save to push the ball to safety.
For the remainder of the half both teams cancelled each other out and it was the visitors who were probably happier when the full time whistle blew to ensure the points were shared.
Muirhevnamor take their unbeaten record to Oriel Park on Friday night when they meet Woodview Celtic in what will be an intriguing affair.
Muirhevnamor: Michael Cooney, Stefan McKevitt, Shane O’Callaghan, Adrian Rafferty, Philip Duffy, Thomas McShane, Sean Conlon, Brendan Hughes, Ryan Dillon, Anto Reilly (Thomas Conway).
