St Dominics’ lead at the top of the U11 Division One was reduced on Saturday morning in Bellew Park after this surprise 4-1 defeat to Monaghan side Blayney Academy.

The under strength Friary side were shocked when Blayney Academy raced into a two goal lead after only 15 minutes with a double strike from Conor Byrne but they did manage to reduce the arrears with a goal from Brian Brady before half time.

St Dominic’s ‘keeper Jacob Rygielski was the busiest player on the pitch in the second half as Blayney Academy sensed an upset was on the cards.

Rygielski produced save after save but he could do nothing to prevent Conor Moran’s powerful strike from entering the net on 52 minutes for Blayney’s third goal and in the 59th minute James O’Brien made it 1-4 to complete the scoring.

Second place Rangers were also defeated by Quay Olympic which means all of the top four teams in this division are still in contention for honours in this competitive and exciting league.
