A GOAL in either half by Joseph Osobe and William Opuko saw Bay United lift the Dundalk FC U12 Cup in a closely fought encounter with Quay Celtic on Sunday morning.
The clinical finishing of Osobe and Opuko was the difference between the teams on the day. Quay Celtic created several good chances but could not find a way past Bay ‘keeper David Odumosu.
The first goal arrived after only four minutes when Ope Stephen shrugged off the challenge of several defenders and slipped a through ball in front of Opuko who made no mistake from six yards.
At the other end Terence Kelly jinked past two Bay defenders and set up Adam Lennon but his shot was too high to threaten David Odumosu.
Thereafter both sides settled down and it was evident that a goalfest was not it the offing as both rearguards looked strong.
Quay Celtic did have the majority of possession but found it difficult to penetrate the Bay United defence where centre backs Michael Begley and Ben Goss gave very little away. Sean Jones did manage to get in behind the Quay defence on 26 minutes but was denied by a terrific save from Odumosu.
It was more of the same in the second half, a frustrating time for Quay as they piled forward in search of an equaliser but Bay United worked extremely hard to weather the storm.
Terence Kelly came very close to equalising with just two minutes left when Kieran Peelo slipped him in with a delightful ball but David Odumosu produced a brilliant point blank save to block Kelly’s goal bound effort.
And Bay doubled their lead in the final minute when Michael Begley’s free kick was turned in by William Opuko to seal the outcome.
