Galway FC boss Tommy Dunne is excited to be welcoming Dundalk to the west on Tuesday night for their pre-season meeting and believes the Lilywhites should now be considered among the title favourites.
With little expectations on their shoulders last season, Stephen Kenny’s men came from nowhere to push St Patrick’s Athletic all the way in the race for the championship.
Former Cork City boss Dunne said: “Of course this game is only a pre-season one but we are playing against one of the favourites to win the Premier Division but we will be trying out different things ourselves.
“We will try out different players in different areas and new systems because these early games are experimental in a lot of ways.”
However, he is still looking forward to pitting his wits against one of the country’s strongest sides: “It is certainly going to be another good test for us and if I can get lads 45-60 minutes, we will be starting to get that little bit more time under our belts.
“We are really looking forward to playing the game, it should be a great occasion. We had a training camp at the weekend which means we may have to be mixing and matching a little more in the game against Dundalk.”
He does have some selection dilemmas to address as Ryan Manning suffered a dead leg and ex-Dundalk man Vinny Faherty picked up a slight knock to his knee and is doubtful.
Admission for the game, set to kick off in Fahy’s Field at 7:45pm, is set at €5.
