Quay Celtic attacked in numbers at the start of this U13 Premier Division game on Wednesday night in Clancy Park and were 1-0 ahead after only three minutes when Terence Kelly cut in from the right wing and fired low past Martin McEneaney to give his team the perfect start.

Kieran Peelo went close with a fine effort to increasing Quay’s advantage in the 12th minute but his shot flashed wide of the post.

Bellurgan were slow to settle but the impressive Jack Duffy was urging his team on, making timely interceptions and delivering some probing passes.

Duffy’s accurate pass in the 14th minute into the penalty area was an invitation for Luke Higgins to run on to but a timely interception by centre-half Mark Traynor averted the danger.

The home side’s response was swift and clinical two minutes later when Thomas Daly nipped in between the keeper and the last defender to poke the ball home after a deep cross from Kieran Peelo to make it 2-0.

Bellurgan’s best chance of a goal in the first-half was in the 21st minute when Duffy’s free kick slammed into the back of a Quay Celtic defender, the ball fell perfectly into the path of Connor Watters but his shot flew high and wide of the goal.

The second-half saw a much quieter game and Bellurgan fought hard to try and keep possession. Quay pressed them very quickly allowing them very little time on the ball but they were unlucky in going forward and were also met each time by a solid display of football by the Quay backline.

Quay Celtic, however, were not content at 2-0 and Martin McEneaney had to be at his best to produce a good save to deny a pile driver from 25-yards by Ken McEvoy.
