Muirhevnamor were narrow 1-0 winners in this fixture back in September in the first round game of the U11 Premier Division but Quay Celtic showed much improvement since then to take all three points in an exciting match played in the Army Grounds. Sean Cassidy looked certain to score in the 4th minute for Muirhevnamor but a brilliant point blank save by Conor O’Neill saved the day for Quay.
It was end to end for most of the first half as both sides attacked at every opportunity.
Ruari Kierans and Oisin Monaghan went close for Quay and another Conor O’Neill save prevented Ryan Boland from scoring for Muirhevnamor.
The deadlock was broken six minutes into the second-half when Adam McSkian seized on a loose ball on the edge of the box and showed great technique to score with the outside of his right foot.
The home side’s confidence soared after the goal. Conall Gray’s corner was narrowly headed over by Jack Mulroy and then a fierce shot by Gray flew inches wide of the Muirhevnamor post. Muirhevnamor responded with Alex Slesscils bursting past several defenders but Conor O’Neill was in the right place again to produce a good block.
The home side then went 2-0 ahead when Sean Corrigan’s left footed curling effort found the top corner for a superb strike. The visitors nearly got on the score sheet in the closing stages but the Quay Celtic post got in the way of a well struck effort from Ryan Coleman.
