Jamie Browne was Glenmuir’s hero on Saturday morning when he scored the winning goal in the final minute to send his team into the open draw of the U13 National Cup with the last 32 teams in the country.
Glenmuir raced into an early lead with Josh Todd shooting low past Evan Niven in the 2nd minute and they were 2-0 ahead on ten minutes when Kian Newell slotted home the rebound after JJ Nwabueze’s shot was blocked on the line.
Todd made it 3-0 in the 26th minute when he got his second of the game, finishing off Kian Newell’s pass through.
The game looked over for Parkvilla but the Navan side reduced the deficit two minutes later when Ryan Galligan got his name on the scoresheet when he fired home from inside the Glenmuir penalty area.
That goal gave the away side a burst of energy and they scored a second goal on the stroke of half time when Brian O’Hanlon found the top corner with a superb strike to make it 3-2.
Chances were scarce in the second half from the current Dundalk and North East Counties League leaders.
A fine save from Evan Niven prevented Josh Todd completing a hat-trick and a timely block by JJ Nwabueze prevented Ryan Galligan scoring for the Navan side.
Galligan was not to be denied as he crept in behind the Glenmuir defence in the 64th minute to slot past Browne for the equaliser.
The game was heading for extra time when Glenmuir were awarded a free-kick on the outskirts of the penalty area in the final minute and Browne expertly floated the ball over the wall and under the crossbar for a delightful winning goal.
