The first 20 minutes of this Fastfix U12 Division One game on Tuesday night in the Polo Field was an even affair.

Rangers had the upper hand and put in a good display with Israel Olatunde and Aidan O’Brien going close in the 10th and 12th minutes respectively.

Kristaps Valainis of Redeemer was not afraid to attack the home side’s defence at every opportunity with the assistance of Ryan McDonnell up front.

The opening goal came on 21 minutes, a long kick out by Redeemer goalkeeper Conor Cahill deceived everybody except the alert Valainis who timed his run to perfection and coolly slotted beyond the advancing Ben Dixon.

Israel Olatunde went close for Rangers just before the half-time whistle but Conor Cahill produced a good save to deny the Rangers striker.

Cian O’Shaughnessy had two good opportunities to equalise early in the second half, the first he fired inches wide of the Redeemer post and the second was brilliantly saved by Cahill. Redeemer’s response was very positive and Jake Mackin and Rian McDonnell both had shots crash off the Rangers post in the 47th and 48th minute.

This was certainly the turning point in the game for Rangers as they completely went out of the game and Redeemer powered through the home defence.

Ryan McDonnell doubled Redeemer’s advantage on 49 minutes and two minutes later Kristaps Valainis secured his second to put the visitors 0-3 up.

It was 0-4 by the 56th minute when Ryan McDonnell pounced on a mistake in the Rangers penalty area to hammer home his second goal of the night.
