Muirhevnamor bounced back from their opening game defeat to Shamrocks last week to take all three points in this lively U11 Premier game with Quay Celtic on Wednesday evening.

Both sides were bright and inventive with the nine-a–side format at this age group, which sees them play in small goals which are positioned on the edge of the 18-yard box, allowing the players plenty of time on the ball.

Daragh Toner was inches wide for Quay on six minutes and three minutes later at the other end Tolees Aguinade’s shot was deflected away for a corner after good work by Dylan McGuill. The post then saved Muirhevnamor when an Oisin Monahan shot cannoned back off the upright and Dylan McGuill was unlucky again in the 17th minute for Muirhevnamor with a shot from close range that was well saved by Conor O’Neill.

The Quay Celtic ‘keeper produced another terrific save on 20 minutes when he somehow turned Leon Mulholland’s goal bound effort around the post.

It was more of the same in the second half. Jamie Lee went close for Muirhevnamor and Jake MacNamara went close for Quay but the deadlock was broken eight minutes from time when Cian Burns skipped into the Quay Celtic penalty area and showed wonderful skill and composure to hook the ball over the head of Conor O’Neill into the top corner for a magnificent winning goal.
