St Dominic’s U11s stayed in touch with Division One league leaders Glaslough Villa with this narrow 3-2 win over Rangers at Bellew Park on Saturday morning.

St Dominic’s created three good chances in the first ten minutes through Kyle McFadden, Rory Kirke and Calum Mulholland but failed to find the net on all three occasions while at the other end Rangers took a 0-1 lead with their first attack of the game in the 11th minute when Jack McCormack squeezed the ball home from a difficult angle to open the scoring.

The response from St Dominic’s was positive and Calum Mulholland fired home from the edge of the Rangers penalty area for the equaliser and then Rory Kirke put the home side 2-1 ahead with a powerful shot from outside the box.

St Dominic’s should have extended their lead before the break when Morgan Quigley found himself one on one with Rangers ‘keeper Ben Dixon but the Rangers net-minder was alert to the danger and won the race to the ball.

Rangers got themselves back into contention on the stroke of the half time whistle when Jack McCormack set up Phaisal Moyo to blast home from close range.

Kyle McFadden’s superb curling effort was inches wide of the Rangers post early in the second half but McFadden was not to be denied when he broke through the Rangers defence 11 minutes into the second half and he slotted home to put St Dominic’s 3-2 ahead.

Keith Dollard went close for Rangers while Rory Kirke went close to extending the lead for St Dominic’s as the home side held on to register all three points.
