Darver’s U13 Boys team became county badminton champions for the first time after winning a very tight Co Louth final against Ardee.

The league stages of the competition involved Darver, Ardee 1 and 2, Silverbridge and Cooley. It was Ardee and Darver that topped the Group with Darver and Ardee with each winning one match each by three games to two in the head to head.

As expected the final was a very close and competitive affair. In the first game it was Darver’s Paul Coyne who came from behind to eventually win his singles game by 21 to 16.

The first doubles was evenly balanced with Darver’s Adam Kane and Cormac Harmon finishing strongly to win 30 to 18.

In what became the deciding match in the best of five matches, Ardee raced into an early 10-33 lead against Josh Mackin and Adam Kane. However the Darver pair fought back to level at 20 all and as the teams exchanged points it was Darver who came through narrowly by 30 points to 27.

The Darver team was Adam Kane, Paul Coyne, Josh Mackin, Cormac Harmon, Andrew McDonnell and Conal McCaul.

Leinster winners

In a recent Leinster tournament two of the U13 county winners Adam Kane and Paul Coyne did the club proud when they came away winners of the U13 Boys Doubles competition.
