Last weekend saw round two of the Kickboxing Ireland (KBI) Senior National Championships take place in Dublin.
Dundalk MAS-F had two instructors, Enda Kelly and Fidelma Martin, competing for the highly sought after titles that offers a chance to represent Ireland at the prestigious WAKO European Championships this year. KBI is the only national championships with Olympic Council and Irish Sports Council recognition.
After winning his first round, Kelly demonstrated his skills and took gold in both forms and weapons.
Enda entered the area with his double bo routine to secure his second consecutive senior Irish national title in both disciplines having won them last year.
Fidelma Martin, entering the veteran ladies sections of continuous and point fighting, met her Cork based opponent with energy.
After controlling the fight from the start, her opponent retired in the first round and Fidelma won her first national title of the day.
The same opponent was to meet her in the point fighting but she had to withdraw due to injury, thus conceding the final, and giving Fidelma her second national title.
Both national champions must now go through gruelling training camps to prepare for the European Championships in the autumn.
MAS-F are as always proud to be part of the kickboxing community and by adding four new national titles from four different disciplines to the dossier of the instructors, it indicates the quality of training that takes place in the club.
