DESPITE being in only his third year of competitive racing, Dundalk’s Aaron O’Rourke has become the Motorsport Ireland Cadet Kart champion.

Aaron travelled to Tynagh in Co Galway on September 30 to take part in Round 8 of the Championship. Going into the race he lead the chasing pack by one point and sealed his win by finishing 10 points ahead of his nearest rival.

During the season, which started in March, Aaron also won the Leinster and Southern Karting titles. On his journey to becoming national champion, Aaron raced in Cork, Kilkenny, Galway and his local track in Whiteriver, Collon where he won his first race.

This is a massive achievement for an 11-year-old boy who has no big racing team behind him. Indeed, Aaron’s mechanic is his dad whose hard work and constant support, along with Aaron’s 100% commitment, helped secure all three titles.

Motor racing is an expensive sport and without sponsorship it wouldn’t be possible for Aaron to compete. He would like to thank Shane McManus tyres for his generous support and Alex Dempsey racing for his expertise.

Aaron’s goal is now to race in the pinnacle of a cadet racer’s career in the Super 1 Championship in England. This competition kick started the careers of Formula 1 stars Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Who knows what the future holds for this young star from Dundalk?
