Classy display from Cobra Kan in Canada

SIX fighters from local martial arts club Cobra Kan took part in the 4th annual World Karate Kickboxing Championships in Montreal, Canada recently.

SIX fighters from local martial arts club Cobra Kan took part in the 4th annual World Karate Kickboxing Championships in Montreal, Canada recently.

Hundreds of competitors take part in the competition and six of those fighters were Cobra Kan’s Peter Lamb Fegan, Martina Goss, Sean O’Hare, Megan Rogers, Catherine Brady and David Mathews.

First time fighters in the World Championships, Peter Lamb Fegan and Martina Goss fought with huge levels of skill and passion and neither could be faulted for their performance on the day.

Peter competed in the boys -12yrs and Martina competed in the womens -55kgs. Peter also competed in the boys team event were his team took home the bronze medal.

Sean O’Hare competed in the boys 13-15yrs where he fought with power and speed, never faulting. Sean competed in the boys team event as well, securing the bronze medal in this.

Megan Rogers had an incredible competition. She competed in the girls 16-17yrs +65kgs where she made her way to the final and in a nail biting fight took it to extra time, returning home with nothing less than the silver medal in her division. Megan then fought in the girls team event and they also took home the silver.

Catherine Brady fought in the -55kgs section. Catherine is a black belt in the club and an extremely experienced and talented fighter. She fought amazingly on the day in her division. Catherine joined her team mates in the ladies team event, winning the bronze medal in this.

David Mathews entered the mens +90kgs continuous section where he fought his way to the semi final with huge skill and experience. He won the bronze in this section.

David was on the mens continuous team where they met the Great British team in the final. David’s fight was the deciding fight and after he won this it secured the gold for his team.

Cobra Kan instructors Patricia McQuillan and Bernard Duffy are extremely proud of all fighters.
