The Mace Blackrock Triathlon took place once again in the seaside village of Blackrock, the event being the flagship event of the local Satanta Triathlon Club.
Just over a hundred participants took to the waters of a full tide at the local beach, and it was indeed a good ‘swim’ to start with the water level just right.
Swimmers were watched over by the local Dundalk Canoe Club and local kayakers.
An 18k cycle to Castlebellingham and back was next before finally exiting bike transition for the final 6k run around the outskirts of Blackrock.
It was a big day for the ‘Zero to Hero’ first time tri-athletes who undertook a ten week training program under the guidance of the club’s coaches Robert Kinahan and Graham Townsend, and they were all proud finishers on the day.
The weather was fantastic and a great buzz around the village. A big thank you to all marshals, Garda, Red Cross. Dundalk Canoe Club, Mace, Gerry Hamilton and all who helped out on the day.
Elsewhere there were some excellent results last weekend for Setanta Tri-athletes, especially Owen Martin and Laura O’Driscoll who won the Dungannon Half Ironman while Bryan McCrystal was second overall in Tri-Athy Olympic triathlon.
Gretta O’Connor came second overall in the Tri-Athy ‘Double’ Olympic and Sheena Dullaghan was third. Suzy Mackin was second in her age group at Tri-Athy sprint.
