Scoil Uí Mhuirí’s Niamh Fussey has every reason to celebrate this week after her outstanding performance at the All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships which took place recently in Tullamore.

Niamh, a sixth year student, ran a personal best to take the silver medal in the senior girls 100m hurdles competition.

In the Leinster Schools finals last month Niamh earned herself a silver medal in the Senior girls 100m hurdles, and a place in the prestigious All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships.

At the end of May Niamh was presented with the Senior Athlete of the Year award, at Scoil Uí Mhuirí’s Annual Awards Ceremony in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the sport.

Niamh, who is currently preparing for her Leaving Certificate Examinations, places great emphasis on her athletics training and engagement with athletics competitions.

“This is a fantastic achievement for Niamh, her athletics coach, Ms. Jacqueline Matthews, our school and for Co. Louth VEC,” said Fiona Kindlon, Principal of Scoil Uí Mhuirí. Niamh is an exemplary student and athlete who consistently works to a very high standard.”
