120 archers compete

DUNDALK hosted the 2011 Irish Indoor Open Archery Championships, the biggest ever indoor archery competition, on Sunday, November 20.

DUNDALK hosted the 2011 Irish Indoor Open Archery Championships, the biggest ever indoor archery competition, on Sunday, November 20.

Hosted by CúChulainn Archers, the 2011 Irish Indoor Open Archery Championships took place in the Youth Development Centre in Oriel Park, Dundalk. According to the Archers, it was a “great success”.

There were over 120 archers competing at the event including members of the Ireland squad, Para World Squad, some former Olympians and some of the top archers from Ireland and the EU.

Local Jody O’Neill, from CúChulainn Archers, who is ranked 7th in the world, was among those competiting in the championships.

The format included a 60 arrow seeding round followed by ‘head to head’ matches, with team competitions and mixed doubles helping to create a fascinating competition.

This is the first time that a competition of this type was held in Ireland. Seating was provided for spectators who witnessed a great display of different types of archery.
