This years eventful Blackrock Raft Race was one of the most exciting yet

The day saw a dolphin rescue, after two dolphins were stranded on a beach, a lost child reunited with his mother, an exciting helicopter display and the arrival of the Titanic complete with a piano playing Conor Hughes

Another exciting event was the Schools Talent Competition, which saw kids from each of the local schools taking to the stage to entertain the crowd. First place in this event went to “Boom”, from St Fursey’s NS, made up of Jade Marron, Anna Asare, Anna Monahan, Aisling Connor and Victoria Fee. Second place went to “Lady Gaga Mix” from St. Oliver Plunkett’s NS featuring performances from Richard Dunne, Eve Cosgrove and Hannah Farrelly and in joint 3rd were “Set Fire To The Rain”, St. Fursey’s NS (Sophie Murtagh) and “Call on Me”, St. Fursey’s NS (Grainne Boyle, Maeve Hannah, Emma Miller, Caoimhe Rafferty).

Other events included a Treasure Hunt on the beach which was won by Donncha and Meadhbh and the ever popular Sandcastle Competition which was won by Aoife and Niamh McQuaid. Prizes sponsored by Tiernan’s Centra.

There was a great turnout for the Children’s Fancy Dress with everything from Princesses, Pirates, Peacocks and Catterpillars taking to the stage. In first place was Shauna Cumiskey O’Rourke who was dressed as a beautiful Sea Princess. Second place went to Leah Arrowsmith who was imaginatively dressed as a Liquorice All-Sort and in third place was Ryan Clarke Doran, a very colourful clown.
