€207,900 has been allocated for swimming pools in Co. Louth by the department of Transport, Tourism and Sport
This funding comes on the back of an allocation to Dundalk Town Council in 2011 of e192,100, bringing the total allocation to e400,000.
“The funding has been allocated as part of the third round of grant applications under the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport’s Disabled Access and Energy Upgrade Schemes,” said Mr Fitzpatrick.
“Ensuring that our swimming pools are in full working order, that they are fully accessible to those with disabilities and that they are being run as energy efficiently as possible is essential.
“Public pools are a vital resource in the community and offer people of all ages the chance to get fit, keep fit and to have fun.”
Mr Fitzpatrick added: “In March, local authorities that did not avail of the funding that was available, due to missing the application deadline, having projects scaled back or being unable to draw down the funds in time have been given another chance to secure the funds during this round.
“The funding is being provided on the basis that the building and remedial work will be carried out by September.
