Dundalk is getting ready to host its third Pride Festival which aims to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the North East
“We at Dundalk Outcomers know that having a local Pride event is a great way to acknowledge lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the region, and to recognise the important roles they play in local communities,” said a Dundalk Outcomers spokesperson.
“It’s also a chance to connect with families and friends of the LGBT community. Dundalk Pride 2012 is a celebration of the whole LGBT community in the North East, their families and friends, and anyone who wants to support an inclusive and equal society.”
He added: “Over the past months, members of Dundalk Outcomers have been working hard to organise this year’s Pride Festival and build on the success of previous years. The programme has something for everyone to enjoy.”
The event will kick off on Tuesday, July 10 with the opening of a national art exhibition on “community” at The County Museum, Dundalk. Admission is free. The exhibition will run until Saturday, July 21.
There will be a public launch of the art exhibition on Thursday, July 12 at 6.30pm. Later that evening McGeough’s Bar & Restaurant, Roden Place will host a table quiz from 9pm. Tables costs e25.
Dundalk Pride 2012 will be officially launched in Dundalk Outcomers, The Coach House, 8 Roden Place on Friday, July 13 at 3pm. Refreshments will be provided.
‘Pride Day!’ will take place in Outcomers Centre, Roden Place on Saturday, July 14 from noon to 5pm. This year’s theme is ‘Urban Body & Soul’, so there will be lots of colour, food, games, crafts, therapies and music.
Admission and children’s games are free, and costs of all other activities are minimal.
A Pride Party! - which includes a club DJ and drink promotions - will take place in The Fairways Hotel later that night. It will start at 10pm and will run until late.
