A two month jail sentence was imposed on a 22 year-old Dundalk man on Wednesday for assaulting a lady after she remonstrated with him over kicking her boxer pup.

The animal bounded towards Kieran Kearney, O’Hanlon Park while walking with its owner in the local Ice House Hill Park. The defendant threatened the lady and also kicked her, Dundalk District Court heard.

He admitted offences including assault, animal cruelty, threatening and abusive behaviour and intoxication which arose out of an incident in August 2011. All except the assault were taken into account by Judge William Hamill, who fixed bail for the defendant to appeal.

The case was put back a number of times to give the defendant an opportunity to do community service for which he was found unsuitable. Judge William Hamill was not satisfied with how he had complied with recommendations.
