Local group’s marathon effort

This year the Lord Mayor of Dublin on the day was Gerry Breen.

All the proceeds from this event were given to various different charities.

50 women of all ages took part in one of the biggest events of the year in Ireland.

The group was founded by Joan Brady from Dundalk in 1983.

“I have been very fortunate and took part in all 29 Mini Marathons,” said Joan.

“Over years the group has been given tremendous support from the people of Dundalk and surrounding areas.

“The amount of women taking part in this event has increased dramatically in the 29 years,” said Joan.

“This year a lot more teenagers and younger women have joined the group.

“It is great fun day and is also a great way of raising much needed funds for various charities.

“It is not all about the money that is made it is good to walk for fitness, pleasure and fun,“ said Joan.

The Dundalk Walkers and Joggers group take part in a number of events during the year.

In early October the group will take part in a walk in the Phoenix Park Dublin.

“Anybody that would like to become part of the Dundalk Walkers And Joggers Group is very welcome. We meet every Monday and Wednesday evening.
