Marathon on the spot raises e525 for Simon

A TOTAL of e525 was raised for the local Simon Community at Dundalk IT recently after a fundraising marathon on the spot event was organised by students.

A TOTAL of e525 was raised for the local Simon Community at Dundalk IT recently after a fundraising marathon on the spot event was organised by students.

Local singer/songwriter Bill Coleman was on hand to join students in taking part in the event with each person taking it in turn to run the 26 miles on threadmills over a five hour period.

The event was run in conjunction with the Fit for Life programme that runs in the collect. The programme promotes a healthy life through exercise and a healthy diet.

Events spokesperson, Eddie Cranney, said the students were delighted to be able to support the Dundalk Simon Community.

He said: “In these times of economic difficulty, the services offered by the Simon Community are becoming more and more of a necessity.

“We feel as part of the student body, we have a responsible the support the Simon Community in any way possible and are more than willing to get out running shoes on for such a worthy cause.”
