Big turnout for Pride

REVELLERS painted the town pink for Dundalk Gay Pride 2011, which celebrated the role played by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the community.

REVELLERS painted the town pink for Dundalk Gay Pride 2011, which celebrated the role played by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the community.

The weekend festival was officially launched in Eno Restaurant on Friday, July 15 by newly appointed Dundalk Town Council (DTC) Chairperson Cllr Marianne Butler.

Billy Forbes, chair of Dundalk Outcomers, Louth TD Gerry Adams, Senators Jim D’Arcy and Terry Brennan, Councillors Edel Corrigan, Linus English, Anthony Donohoe, Thomas Sharkey and Ollan Herr also attended the launch party.

Bernardine Quinn, Project Manager of Dundalk Outcomers called on the local representatives to “remain aware of the jewel in the crown that Dundalk Outcomers is” when promoting Ireland, Co Louth and Dundalk as an equal society that respects all its citizens.

The festival featured a diverse programme of activities and events, such as a public film showing in the County Museum, a family-friendly Pride Day in Roden Place and a Pride Party in the Imperial Hotel.
