RESIDENTS in the Dundalk area are invited to attend a family fun day and a car boot sale organised by The Wellington Hall Project in the Marist car park, St Mary’s Road on Bank Holiday Monday, June 6.
There will be a variety of stalls and goods for sale, including books, toys, bric-a-brac, cakes, refreshments, plants and more.
Activities for children will include a bouncy castle, face paining and a schools art competition. The event is open to the public from 1pm - 4.30pm.
Anyone who would like to bring a car should arrive before 12.30pm. The cost for a pitch is 20e per car or 25e per van.
Any proceeds raised from the event will be used to restore Wellington Hall, the Georgian building on St Mary’s Rd.
The building is now in a dilapidated state and has been closed for public use since December 2010. The overall cost of the project is estimated at approximately e1.3 million.
“We are appealing for conservation grants and heritage funding from various bodies to meet much of the cost. However, we need to raise at least 10 per cent (e130,000) through a variety of fund-raising activities and events,” said Wellington Hall Project secretary Brigette Nelson.
“The Wellington Hall Project is very much a project for the community of Dundalk, by the community of Dundalk and if we are to realise our vision we need your support.”
To date the Wellington Hall Project committee has raised in excess of e30,000 through donations and events. A Summer barbeque will also be held at Bellurgan Park on July 23 next.
Future fundraising events include a dream auction, race night, St Nicholas Festive Fayre, May Ball, and a flower arranging demonstration.
Donations can be made via Bank of Ireland, Clanbrassil Street, Dundalk to the ‘The Wellington Hall Project’ account. The account number is 61008073 and the national sort code is 90-33-65.
