There was great jubilation at Ardee Community School this week when the school chaplain and three of the school’s pupils each received a major papal award.

The three sixth year students and chaplain Mr Sean Moran received the Pope John Paul II gold award from Cardinal Brady before A large crowd who attended the presentation at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh.

Emmett Murray, Shauna Matthews and Vivienne Flemming are the students who received the gold awards.

“We had to take part in a number of community and parish activities over the last year,” said Emmett.

“Our duties included reading at Mass and visiting the elderly at Moorehall Lodge Ardee.

“Last year we went to Lourdes. It was a wonderful experience for all of us.

“We would like say a big thank to Mr Moran for his continued support over the last year.

“We would recommend more young people between the ages of twelve and eighteen to become involved in this type of community activity.

“It is a great way of making new friends and becoming aware of what is happening in your parish and locality, said Emmett.

Emmett is from Collon and is a past pupil of Collon national school.

Shauna and Vivienne are from Smarmore and are both past pupils of Ballapousta national school.
