PATIENTS in Co Louth who would normally travel to Dublin for cardiac and vascular services will now be able to access services closer to home.

The Mater Private officially opened its first satellite heart and vascular clinic in the county yesterday (Monday, January 30) in collaboration with local consultant cardiologists Dr Carmel Halley, Dr Paul Keelan and Dr Niamh Murphy.

The consultants will carry out routine consultation appointments with patients from their private rooms in the new clinic at Crosslanes, Drogheda.

They will also carry out diagnostics tests including ECG, Echocardiogram Stress Test, 24 hour blood pressure, 24 hour Holter Monitoring, 48 hour Holter Monitoring and Carotid Ultrasound.

Dr Paul Keelan, Consultant Cardiologist, said: “We are delighted that we can offer a more convenient service to patients in the Louth area while opening up access to the additional expertise and support from our colleagues at the Mater Private Heart & Vascular Centre.

“This ensures we can provide the highest standard of care to our patients, with the benefit of eliminating the need for them to travel to Dublin for initial consultation and testing. We look forward to collaborating with the unrivalled expert team from Mater Private Heart & Vascular Centre.”

Mr John Hurley, Chairman, Mater Private Heart & Vascular Centre, said: “We are delighted to bring the Mater Private Heart & Vascular Centre to Louth.

“We have invested significantly in our services at the Mater Private Hospital and we pride ourselves on offering the most advanced cardiac services in Ireland.

“We are delighted to extend that outside of our own hospital for the first time and we firmly believe that offering access to this level of service to patients on their own doorstep will bring huge benefits and will have a positive impact on patient outcomes.”

The Mater Private Heart & Vascular Clinic, which is near Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, will be open from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm.

The facility compromises two consulting rooms, two cardiology testing rooms, and has ample parking. Attendance at the clinic is by GP or Consultant referral and appointment.
