Clem Walshe

LOCAL man Clem Walshe has won the coveted Travel Innovator of the Year title in the prestigious Herald Travel Awards 2012.

Clem, who lives in Medebawn on the Avenue Road, scooped the highly sought after title on Friday after being singled out for special praise by Herald travel editor Mark Evans.

Walshe earned the accolade for his work with www.lowcostholidays.ie, the holiday website which he was appointed managing director of a year ago this month.

He described the title as a “huge honour” and a great way to mark his one year anniversary with the company.

Speaking about Clem in his decision to name him Travel Innovator of the Year, Mark Evans said: “A mainstay of the travel industry for many years as marketing manager of Budget Travel, Clem Walshe is now the Irish face of lowcostholidays.ie, the leading one-stop online travel solution for Irish holidaymakers.

“The site offers competitive flight seat rates with all the major airlines and tour operators coupled with a massive overseas ground handling network of 300,000 properties and private transfers from more than 450 airports in 70 countries across the globe.”

Lowcostholidays.ie has gone from strength to strength since launching just before Christmas 2010. The site is based upon the highly successful UK model, which has been in operation for the past seven years.
