Togher Macra Na Feirme are the new All-Ireland Macra indoor soccer champions. they after the national final of the NDC Indoor Soccer Macra Competition that took place in Gormanston College last Sunday.

Togher Macra advanced into the national round representing Louth Macra after beating Stabannon Macra in the county round last September. They were drawn alongside Dublin Mountains, Ballymurphy and Tullamore. The first game of the group resulted in a 3-2 beat Dublin Mountains 3-2; Tullamore 1-0 and a 0-0 draw against Ballymurphy saw them top their group.

They then beat Ballycoog 3-0 which put them in the final for the second year running against Kinsale Macra.

The final went to a penalty shoot-out which saw Togher goalkeeper Colin McGrane save the day to ensure that the All-Ireland Macra indoor football title made its way to Louth for the first time.

Macra’s National President Alan Jagoe congratulated the winning teams on their achievement.

“Competitions like indoor soccer are a great hobby for young people along with being great fun,” he said. “Macra encourages members to get involved in sport. It’s great exercise and a way of meeting new people. Indoor soccer is as popular as ever, as seen by the many competitors who battled it out for the coveted titles,” he said. Well done to Togher Macra who once again have proved their worth.
