DUNLEER’s David and Margaret Tiernan has won another major award for his Glebe Brethan cheese which was served at the state banquet when Queen Elizabeth visited Ireland in May.

David and Margaret won a Euro-toques Food Award for a second time.David and Margaret have already won gold medals at the British Cheese Awards and the World Cheese Awards were they competed with cheese products from all over the world.

This has enabled them to break into the UK and continental markets.

The cheese is made using raw milk from the Tiernan’s own herd of Montbeliarde cows.

“I’ve been milking cows for thirty years,” said David, “very few cheese makers have their own herds and this was an advantage.

“Farmers are now forced to expand in order to survive, so we decided to add value to our primary product, which is milk.

“We had the perfect breed to do just that.”
